Love Inc serves as a local clearinghouse in the Cedar Valley to network our local churches across denominational lines to leverage our collective impact to bless those in need in our community. St. John supports the work of Love Inc through funding by our Endowment Fund, volunteer hours, and inclusion on our Angel Tree.  Our newest ministry -- the Linen Ministry -- happens in partnership with Love Inc.  

Donations of new sheets, comforters and towels are being accepted year-round for the Linen Ministry as are funds to purchase supplies as needed.

The Northeast Iowa Food Bank serves 16 counties in Iowa through its distribution center in Waterloo. Volunteers are welcomed to work in the warehouse restocking shelves as well as packing food bags. Recognizing hunger is a year-round challenge St. John responds generously during our Annual Appeal but food items continue to be collected year round in the collection bin by the main level elevator.

Two months each year, St. John volunteers assist residents of NewAldaya on their way to and from worship on Sunday mornings at their chapel. Volunteers walk alongside the residents or roll their wheelchair to the chapel. This assistance comes at a time when faith and attending chapel can be extremely important to the residents. 

For over 150 years, Lutheran Services in Iowa has stood beside Iowa’s most vulnerable people, fulfilling a promise to respond to the love of Jesus Christ through compassionate service. LSI partners with children, youth and families, people with disabilities, the elderly and people of refugee status – helping people in times of need, strengthening families and advocating dignity and social justice for our neighbors in the community. St. John supports the work of LSI in our community through financial gifts from our Endowment Fund.

Lutheran World Relief is a nonprofit organization that helps families in the world’s poorest communities build the resilience they need to thrive. St. John supports Lutheran World Relief in several ways. Every second Monday of the month, volunteers gather to assemble Mission Quilts. First and foremost, recipients use their LWR Quilts to shield against the cold and rain, and for warm bedding. But their versatility also makes Quilts useful as simple tents, floor coverings, or a wrap to hold a baby on a mother’s back. No sewing experience is needed for these quilts - they are tied with yarn!

St. John also supports LWR through funds gifted through our Endowment Fund.
