We are happy and excited that you want your child to be baptized at St. John.
As you plan for your child to be baptized, please call the church office to arrange a suitable time and to reserve a spot in our Baptismal Preparation Class. We also need to know the names of the sponsors and basic statistical information for the baptismal certificate. Because of the role of the congregation in your child's faith life, we celebrate Baptisms during worship services.

Family Faith Event: Baptismal Preparation Class
St.John’s provides a baptismal preparation class for parents who wish to have their child baptized at St. Johns. This two day program meets two consecutive Sundays, following the 9:30 church service. The baptismal preparation class is designed to help prepare families for the baptism of their child, encourages families to make their child’s baptism a meaningful event in their child’s life, and gives families a chance to meet and interact with other parents who are also preparing for a baptism. Participation in this Family Faith Event is an expectation of all parents whose children will be baptized as infants at St. John.

This program is scheduled 4 times a year but is also available at other times for special circumstances. Upcoming Baptismal Class Dates are:  May 6 and 13 (07), August 5 and 12 (07), and November 4 and 11(07).

A Special Word on Sponsors
People often wish to have sponsors, also called "godparents," for their child. The role of a sponsor is to aid parents in the promises they made to God and their child at the time of the baptism. As you are selecting your child's sponsors, please know that sponsors should be people who view Baptism as a gift from God and who will regularly pray for your child. Sponsors should also provide a Christian witness in the way they live. This means that sponsors are to be active members of a Christian church. You may select one or more sponsors who may or may not be related to you or to each other. During the Baptismal Faith Event we will discuss this important role in more detail.
